
Kathryn Barnes

Kathryn is an accomplished K–12 educational leader with over two decades in independent schools, recognized for transforming practices and championing inclusive education. She is currently the Middle and Senior School Principal at The York School, and formerly served as Associate Academic Dean and Executive Director of the Wernham West Centre for Learning at Upper Canada College. Skilled in curriculum and policy development, learning analytics, and teacher professional development, Kathryn collaborates nationally and internationally with organizations such as the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools and the International Boys’ School Coalition. She advances professional learning and research in student wellbeing, learning, and support, and helped develop a Neurodiversity module for future leaders with the Canadian Association of Independent Schools. A lifelong learner, Kathryn holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Toronto (OISE), is a special education specialist with qualifications in autism spectrum disorder and behavioural challenges, and has professional certificates from Harvard School of Education and Harvard School of Business.
