About SEAC
The Education Act requires every district school board and school authority to establish a Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC). SEACs are standing committees of the school board. Membership includes representatives of the board, including trustees, and one representative from each local association or organization of parents, up to a total of 12.
SEAC representatives provide input on the needs of each association’s exceptionality group, bring forward information from families and communities, identify gaps in service, and advise the board on how special education programs and services can be improved.
LDAO chapters have SEAC representatives and alternates on many of the school boards in the communities they serve. To help keep LDAO SEAC representatives and alternates informed, LDAO produces a SEAC Circular five times a year.
SEAC Circulars
The LDAO SEAC Circular is published throughout the school year to support SEAC representatives in their advisory role. Each circular highlights priority issues, framing questions, and resources that can support discussion and advocacy at the board level.
