LD Awareness Month October 2022 Press Kit

The Learning Disabilities Associations of Ontario will be marking Learning Disability (LD) Awareness month throughout the month of October. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness and reduce stigma to allow individuals with LDs to get the supports they need to reach their potential.

Petition: Support Every Child’s Right to Read

We call on the Government of Ontario to implement an evidenced-based literacy curriculum that is aligned with the science of reading and with the recommendations laid out by the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s (OHRC) Right to Read Inquiry.

Final Recommendations released for K – 12 Education Standards

LDAO welcomes the release of the Final Recommendations of the K -12 Standards Development Committee, chaired by Lynn Ziraldo. We commend Lynn and all the committee members who worked so hard to consult and develop these recommendations.

October 26, 2020: A new OHRC video provides a snapshot of the progress of Right to Read, the OHRC’s public inquiry into human rights issues affecting students with reading disabilities in Ontario’s public education system.

In the summer of 2019, the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario partnered with the Community Research Co-Operative in order to measure awareness, perceptions and attitudes among Ontario residents towards learning disabilities.
