Learning Disabilities Association of York Region expanding to Simcoe, becoming the Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe

RICHMOND HILL, ON – The Learning Disabilities Association of York Region is please to announce their name change and geographical expansion to service Simcoe County. While the pandemic brought increased need for programs in York Region, it also brought attention to the services needed in Simcoe for students diagnosed with learning disabilities. Effective immediately the organization will now be known as the Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe.

Formally known as the Learning Disabilities of York Region, the organization has been servicing York Region since 1976. “We know that students diagnosed with LD’s make the highest number of exceptional diagnoses in our school systems, yet services specific to their needs continue to be scarce. We hope to become as strong of a presence in the communities of Simcoe County as we have in York Region” Helga Sirola- Executive Director of the LDAYS

“In a time where the impacts of the pandemic are still being felt by students and families living with learning disabilities and charities are still in recovery mode in a difficult economy, an expansion of services geographically is no small undertaking. The ability to use a track record of success, over so many years serving the York Region to impact Simcoe will no doubt prove valuable for the extended community.

Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario is delighted by and proud of the new York-Simcoe Chapter and wishes them continued success for many years to come.” Lawrence Barns CEO and President and Steven Reid Board Chair of the LDAO.

LDAYS promotes increased awareness of, and respect for, persons with learning disabilities and ADHD among the community at large, professional groups and relevant educational, social, recreational, medical, legal and employment sectors through support, guidance and education opportunities. It plays a leadership role in actively promoting greater research in the field of learning disabilities.
