Families needed for SickKids research study involving neuroimaging, neurobiology and reading disabilities

A research team at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is recruiting for a study investigating the neuroimaging based modeling of reading disabilities. Families and their children, aged 6 to 16 years, who struggle with reading AND who have a same sex, biological sibling with strong reading skills, no more than three years apart in age, are eligible! Results from this study will be used to help future studies potentially assess new treatments for reading disabilities. Families will receive a report describing their child’s psycho educational assessment results, which may be helpful for education planning. The research is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

All testing will take place at SickKids in downtown Toronto. The study will require two full days (one child per day), and involves:

Cognitive and reading tests
MEG and MRI scan of the brain
Parent questionnaire
Blood draw for families that qualify.
