This presentation will focus on how to become a proactive advocate for your child on the school system. Developing a good IEP is an essential part of advocating for your child in the school system. Tips on how to accomplish this will be discussed. A students' rights around full day school attendance, suspensions and field trips will also be covered.

Toronto – Introduction to Executive Functioning and LDs/ADHD

This workshop provides participants with an understanding of the nature of executive functioning (higher order thinking skills including organization and problem-solving) and difficulties children with LDs/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) may have in regulating themselves. Suggestions on how to support children and youth with executive functioning challenges will be introduced.

Toronto – Understanding Social Competence in Children and Adolescents with LDs/ADHD

In this workshop, we will discuss why children with LDs and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are at risk of experiencing social challenges with their peers. Participants will explore the developmental skills necessary for these children to be more socially competent and successful. Strategies on how to understand and support social competence will be offered.

Milton – Managing Change and Times of Transition for Children and Adolescents with LDs/ADHD

Where: @ Milton Seniors’ Activity Centre, Auditorium 500 Childs Drive, Milton, ON L9T 5G2 This workshop explores possible stressors related to change and transitions for children and adolescents with Learning Disabilities and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). We may explore various types of transitions from those associated with daily life, to seasonal changes such as summer vacation, to life transitions such as starting high school or post-secondary school. We will explore different strategies to help ease tensions and prepare individuals
