Terms and Conditions
Purpose
- In memory of Gloria Landis for her significant and sustained contribution to and achievements within LDAO on behalf of individuals with learning disabilities
- To provide financial assistance to a mature individual with learning disabilities who is in a postsecondary program or accredited vocational institute, and has been absent from full-time education for a period of three years.
Value of Scholarship: The bursary is valued at $1,000.00 annually
Number: One scholarship will be awarded annually
Deadline: Completed applications and supporting documents must be received by the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario by June 15 th
Conditions: The candidate must:
- be diagnosed with a documented learning disability
- be at least 25 years of age
- have been absent from full-time education for a period of three years
- have been accepted into a postsecondary or accredited vocational institute program (at the time of funding)
- be considered by the educational institution to be a mature student within the institution's rules and regulations
- have submitted all required documentation
- have followed all the application policies and procedures prescribed by the LDAO, and not been awarded this bursary previously
- be an Ontario resident
Program Administration: The bursary will be administered by the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario (LDAO). The selection is made by a committee comprising of a LDAO board member, a member of the Adult Advocacy Committee, a member of the immediate Gloria Landis family or a designate there of, and a LDAO staff person.
Awards Procedure
- In the event that more than one qualified candidate applies for the award, the committee may only select one recipient per year. In order to assist the committee with this procedure the candidate must complete the application form in full, and submit an essay as outlined in the application form in either typewritten, electronic or audio-taped format.
- The candidate is also required to submit proof of their learning disability, their Ontario residency, and their acceptance into their chosen program as outlined in the application form.
- The candidate is required to submit two letters of reference (as per the application form). These letters cannot be from a relative of the candidate.
Obligation of Winners
- The bursary winner, notified by August 31 st , must submit confirmation of registration to the educational institute before the bursary is awarded.
- The recipient must enter and attend their educational institution within the year of application.
- The recipient must provide the LDAO with their Social Insurance Number in order to be issued a T4A slip for tax purposes.
- The recipient of the bursary must consent to having their picture and a brief biography appear in LDAO publications.
