The Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario (LDAO) is a charitable non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth and adults with learning disabilities. LDAO offers many resources, services, information, venues and products designed to help people with LDs and ADHD, as well as parents, teachers, and other professionals.

LDAO’s mission is to provide leadership in learning disabilities advocacy, research, education and services and to advance the full participation of children, youth and adults with learning disabilities in today’s society.

What does LDAO do?
Assists people with learning disabilities and their families in meeting their expressed needs by:
- providing support, guidance and up-to-date resource information
- providing the opportunity for the sharing of information and common concerns
- encouraging research in the field of learning disabilities
- supporting and generating legislative initiatives.
Furthers the educational, social, recreational, legal, medical, vocational and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities in Ontario.
Acquaints professionals working in the above listed fields -- education, recreation, legislation and justice, health, vocational training and employment - with the current literature and research in the field of learning disabilities.
Creates public awareness of learning disabilities by informing the public of the issues and challenges faced by people with learning disabilities. Check out some of our public awareness events.
In addition, we sell some books, literature and videos related to learning disabilities. We also have videos for rent. Feel free to contact us about our library at info@LDAO.ca.

The national branch of the Learning Disabilities Association is LDA Canada (LDAC). Find their fully bilingual website at www.ldac-taac.ca.

Scholarship and Bursary
LDAO offers two awards - a bursary and a scholarship :
Gloria Landis Memorial Bursary : The Gloria Landis Memorial Bursary was established in memory of Gloria Landis for her significant contributions to LDAO and her community on behalf of individuals with learning disabilities.
One bursary will be awarded annually in the amount of $1,000 to a mature individual with learning disabilities, enrolled in a postsecondary program or accredited vocational institute, who has been absent from full-time education for a period of three years.

Roy Cooper Scholarship: The LDAO offers an annual $1,000 scholarship award in the name of a long serving LDAO Board Member, Roy Cooper, to a high school student who has a documented Learning Disability and will be attending a University or College, majoring in an engineering and/or physical sciences discipline. Mr. Cooper spent his working life in the engineering/ physical sciences field and, as a parent of an adult with learning disabilities, has spent over 30 years volunteering at the local, provincial and national levels of the Learning Disabilities Association. He will take an active role in the awarding process.
