Lawrence Barns, President & CEO

Before joining LDAO, Lawrence was the President and CEO of CAFE (Canadian Association of Family Enterprise) a national, non-profit, member organization. Previous to that role, Lawrence was Vice President at a National Charity. A Lawyer by training, he spent many years as a global business executive before moving into the Non-Profit sector.  Lawrence is passionate about the cause as one of his own children has an LD.  Responsible for the overall strategy of LDAO, he is especially focussed on advocacy, Media and building strategic partnerships to further the work of LDAO.

Karen Quinn, Director, Operations

Karen has been with LDAO since 1978 and filled a number of staff roles over that time. Her current responsibilities encompass supporting the growth and sustainability of our 20 chapters across the province, the development of standardized operational policies and procedures for the provincial office and chapters, the overview of membership policies and procedures, and human resources support to the organization.

Diane Wagner, Public Policy, Client Services and Training Manager

Diane Wagner has been with the LDAO since 1987. She answers questions from parents, adult consumers, professionals, educators, employers and students, and consults to LDAO chapters on resource and advocacy issues. Diane works with the LDAO Legislation & Policy and Scientific Advisory Committees, writes the SEAC Circular, and represents LDAO on various committees and consultations.

Uzma Abdullah, Web Based Teaching Tool (WBTT) Manager

As the WBTT Manager, Uzma is responsible for the overall development, delivery and implementation of the WBTT program. She works closely with the Director in identifying marketing and advocacy opportunities for the WBTT program. Uzma holds a degree in Business Administration and is a certified Elementary Teacher. She is passionate about working behind the scenes to help decrease the early achievement gap in Ontario.

Shannon Malloch, Bilingual WBTT Coordinator

As Bilingual WBTT Coordinator, Shannon provides technical and pedagogical support to French and English school boards across Ontario. Shannon works within the WBTT team to further develop the teaching tool, provide marketing support, and create promotional material. Shannon holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts specializing in French Literature and Economics, as well as a Bachelor of Education for the Intermediate/Senior level. She has worked as a teacher in the private sector, and is now enjoying working behind the scenes to improve student success rates.

Amy Johnston, Bilingual WBTT Support Administrator

As the Bilingual WBTT Support Administrator, Amy provides technical support to English and French school boards in Ontario. Amy also works closely with the members of the WBTT team to provide administrative support in the marketing, development and training aspects of the teaching tool. She holds a Bachelor of Science specializing in Chemistry, as well as a Bachelor of Education for the Intermediate/Senior level. Amy is excited to support the WBTT team in making a difference in the literacy and numeracy levels of young students.
